Trust.

Trust can be a funny thing. Some might say it’s an emotion. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “to trust is to believe that someone is good and honest and will not harm you.” Trust does heavily rely on feelings and therefore it affects our emotions. Trust is important in all types of relationships in our lives, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, anyone. Trust is earned. Trust does not just pop up overnight like a Twitter notification. You don’t instantly start trusting your friend not to tell others your secrets and your partner to always treat you right. It happens overtime by learning more about each other. By building the relationship between each other. When I trust the people in my life, I don’t ever even second guess it. If I trust someone, I do so completely and utterly. I don’t go around trying to dig deep to find something. I don’t go searching for anything because once you trust someone, this wouldn’t even come to mind.

However, if you were to find out that someone has betrayed your trust, it gets tricky. Some people seem to think that it’s easy to trust that person again and be 100% normal with them, but it’s a bit harder than that. Especially when you trusted them so completely that you would’ve never even guessed it. It’s even worse if they do something that affects how much (or little) you trust them again. So if you’re the person that’s messed up and you want to regain someone’s trust again… here’s what you should do. There’s not guarantee that this will help, but it’s always better to try and fail than to never try at all.

1. Show them that you’re sorry.

If you treat it like an issue that’s not really that important, it will make the person feel like you don’t even care. So what’s the point of them even investing their feelings and emotions in you again? So make sure you’re sincerely sorry for whatever you did and make sure they know that. It always helps to apologise right away instead of arguing and making each other more upset. Sometimes an apology from the bottom of your heart that comes right away is all it takes.

2. Be kind.

Don’t get angry at them for not trusting you. I know this might just be an instant reaction but don’t do it. That’s just not going to help, at all. I’ve had instances in my life where the people betraying my trust got upset with me for not trusting them right away and even shifting the blame on me. This will just make matters worse. Be kind, be understanding. Don’t bring out past issues, don’t shift the blame. Be nice and accept it if you did something wrong.

3. Show them that they can trust you again.

Invest some of your feelings in them. Perhaps tell them something about you that nobody knows. Show them that you trust them just as much as they should trust you. Don’t repeat your mistakes. Don’t do things that would make them paranoid. Show them that you can be trusted and sooner or later they will.

Of course, you can’t always please everyone and you shouldn’t waste your whole life trying to prove yourself to someone.  But if you show them you’re sorry, that you’re kind to them and that you show them you can be trusted again, you won’t have to waste years to get their trust back. Trust is earned and if you treat people right, they will treat you right back.

Be kind, be humble.

Feeling Homesick

Lately I’ve been missing home more than anything. I’ve finished university after three years and I’m going on to my masters degree next year. This summer I’m also moving in with my boyfriend and pretty much starting my independent life properly. This is the first summer I haven’t gone back home for the full summer (3 months!) and it feels a bit weird.

I miss my house and the fluffy rug in my room. I miss the massive beanbags my mum made herself (they’re the size of a small room honestly, absolutely MASSIVE). I miss my parents’ pink room and I miss our comfy living room with a fireplace in it. I miss my cat who’s the fluffiest, softest and cuddliest thing in the world. I miss my nephew Kennert who always knows how to put a smile on my face and I miss my nephew Karel who’s just the smallest cutest guy ever and who I have only met twice in my life due to living so far away. I miss my mum who’s the funniest smartest most caring person in the world and I miss my dad who’s the strongest kindest and most supportive person in my life. I miss my brother who makes stupid jokes but is someone I can always count on. I miss my friend Maris who’s always there for me throughout everything and I miss my friend Kaisa who I haven’t seen for months but who always makes me laugh until I cry. I miss all of these people and I miss my home town and the sea and the river being so close to my house. But here’s the thing… These people are still in my life. Although I’ve lived far away for 3 years I know they’re all still there. There for me just like I am still there for them. And I feel so lucky.

Appreciate the people in your life who love you just as much as you love them. These are the people that are going to be there for you through every step of your life, no matter how far you are. If you’re homesick and you miss them, then let them know. They’re only a phone call or a message away.

“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Feeling Homesick

Bad Days…

Sometimes bad things happen. Actually, bad things happen every day. Whether it’s your sandwich falling on the floor, getting a bad grade, breaking your phone screen or something more serious. But it is not the end of the world, I promise you.

Recently, my boyfriend and I were on our way to the London Stansted airport to get on our flight back to Estonia and we were beyond excited. The day was all running smoothly, we got a cheeky little McDonalds meal on the way and we were happy to be going to our hotel for the day on a lovely sunny day. We planned on sleeping at a hotel near the airport and we paid for the car to stay there for two weeks while we’re gone. But things didn’t go quite according to plan…

We were 30 minutes away from the hotel when we noticed that the engine temperature was flashing bright red and was on maximum. First of all, we thought it might be a mistake as the light disappeared but it came back in a minute and the temperature meter did not go back down anymore. That’s when we knew something was wrong and we looked for the fastest exit from the motorway so we could stop somewhere. We turned off to a road that we had never been before and stopped the car. When we got out and looked under the bonnet it was all full of smoke. UH-OH! Needless to say, we were shocked and not entirely sure what had caused it so it was time to have a million phone calls to get it sorted. We waited three hours in the middle of nowhere, amongst chickens and cows somewhere called Godmanchester, until someone came to have a look. Unfortunately, there was absolutely nothing that he could do as some part of the radiator pipe had completely burst and it was unfixable at the spot. At that moment we knew, the day was not going to be as we expected at all. We knew the car had to be taken away but we had to make it to the hotel to catch our flight early in the morning, which made the day even worse – the worry of not actually being able to go back home to Estonia. Two hours later the truck that took our car away arrived. We unloaded the car of our suitcases and said bye to our car, which was quite weird as you have to give away your car and your keys to a complete stranger. Honestly, none of this what we expected. But life happens and sometimes it’s not that great. Sometimes it’s pretty horrible.

Although the day consisted of 6 hours of sitting down in the middle of nowhere, worried with nothing to do at all, there were some good parts. It was so sunny throughout the whole time so we just sat on the grass on the side of the road and enjoyed the flowers and the animals around us. We listened to songs and sang at the top of our lungs. We were never sad or angry at anyone because we had each other the whole time to keep each other company. To be honest, those 6 hours weren’t that bad after all. I was with someone that I love on a warm sunny day, resting on the grass with the countryside around us. And that, despite all the worries, sounds pretty perfect to me.

Also, after all this drama, the company dealing with this car drama ordered us a taxi that they paid for to take us to the hotel. YAY! When we arrived, we saw the amazingly beautiful hotel and everyone there was lovely. We ordered the much deserved room service (as we hadn’t had a sip of water or even a bite of food for over 6 hours) and enjoyed every bit of it. We even had baths to try and relax before our early flight. And although instead of spending the day at the hotel and only being there for 5 hours (sleeping for 2 hours), the time we spent there was wonderful. It’s not about what happens throughout the day, it’s about the people who get through it with you.

I hope you can find something good in every day no matter the worries and troubles in your life. Whether it’s a yummy chocolate bar you had or a hug from a friend. There’s always something to be grateful for, and remember, in a few months you probably won’t even remember this day that wasn’t that great. Stay positive. Stay happy. Stay humble.

UCB Goes To International Confex 2017!

This Thursday, we (UCB Marketing with Events Management students) went to the International Confex of 2017 in Olympia London that is held every year. It is the UK’s leading event for event organisers across the world (hence the name ‘international’). This is all about the newest innovations within the events industry as nowadays everything needs a unique selling point otherwise it is extremely difficult and practically impossible to stand out from the crowd. It takes place for two days and we went on the last day. At this event, event industry professionals can buy various products or services for their events for amazing prices. Even though we are not quite events professionals yet, we were taken there in order to show the latest innovations in the industry. This also relates to our assignment for one of our modules Innovation in Events where we have to discuss the latest innovations and pick four of our favourites. I have definitely made my choice now (although the choices were endless at this event)!

1. These robots could walk and even dance (we saw an amazing dance to Gangnam Style). They look at you when you wave to them and sense your movements. I fell in love with the red robot and I feel like I need one in my life! Beware, they do cost a few thousand pounds though haha, not quite fit for my student budget!

2. All the ground floor stalls from up above.

3. The cutest Ice Cream car that can be hired to any event! Get your ice cream directly from this retro car, I found it SO cute!

4. Mega Booth aka the place we spent far too much of our time at because we were obsessed with their photo booth and the amazing backgrounds!

5. This is literally air / smoke that you can consume. You put your straw into this machine in the foggy air and voila – 0 calorie dessert that tastes like candy! This is by Lick Me I’m Delicious, which is just the coolest brand name ever! Even the cotton candy that they make is in so many different flavours and shoots out of the machine towards the sky! No doubt this would make your event one to remember.

6. This is for all those adventure lovers! So many opportunities to have forest adventures around the UK (I believe they said they are in 30 cities/towns!).

7. The coolest place you can eat at as this is a restaurant, bar AND a club! Get all those experiences in one!

8. Beautiful balloons filled with anything you’d like AND they promote your brand logo on it! Would be so amazing for product / brand launches!

9. I just liked the design of this bar… That’s about it haha!

10. You could even get your brows done for free at the event AND they gave amazing deals for all the products they used! Got to love student bargains!

11. This is a robot that walks, talks, dances, cries and just has a mind of its own. Oh, by the way, it’s the robot that Rihanna hangs out with. HOW COOL IS THAT?

12. GuineaPig was one of my favourite parts. They’re basically balloons that just move to the rhythm of the music. It was so weird but so wonderful at the same time and I don’t even know why. So if your event involves music, I think you pretty much need these in your life.

13. This stand provided the most awesome bubbles I’ve ever seen. The tiny bubbles would turn into smoke once they burst – WHAT? How’s that even possible? And they would even put you inside of the giant bubbles! Definitely entertainment worth thinking about!

UCB Goes To International Confex 2017!

Magical Christmas Market

Hello, everyone! I hope you’re doing well and I also hope you’re getting just as excited for Christmas as I am! Have you gotten your Christmas tree out? Have you bought and wrapped your presents? Let me know because I’d love to hear!

This time I wanted to write a little bit about the Birmingham German Market. I have never really participated in the German Market’s festivities nor bought much from it, as to me it seems way too chaotic and to get to a stall seems like a huge mission. This year, however, my best friend Debby convinced me to go and spend some time at the market and I loved it so much! If you’re like me and you’d rather stay away and look at the market from a far, then here are some tips because honestly, if you don’t go, you’re missing out!

1. Pick a Good Time

There’s nothing worse than ‘going with the flow’ of people. It makes me feel so stressed when you just have to move with a crowd of people instead of walking at your own pace and stopping at your favourite stalls. Timing is super essential! Obviously, as you can imagine, the weekends are the busiest so I would stay away if you’re not one who deals well with being in massive crowds. We went on a week day around lunch time and although there was still a big amount of people, we could walk around, look at stalls and pick up our favourite goodies.

2. Relax

This might be an obvious one but just relax and forget about all the people around you. Focus on all the nice bits of the market – after all it’s going to be gone after Christmas! Look at the decorations and all the amazing things they have to offer. Or go with a friend and enjoy your time together with them! There’s nothing more fun than grabbing some Christmas snacks with your friends and laughing until your stomach hurts.

3. Favourite Places

Some of my favourite places are at the Craft Market as they have the yummiest veggie options! Balti chips and vegetarian pizza (right at the entrance coming from the library) are mine and Debby’s favourite! If you’d rather have something sweet, they offer crepes and waffles, which smell incredible even when you just walk past the stalls. The one thing that’s not in the Craft Market is the fudge. You can choose from so many different flavours and they all taste amazing! It’s located on New Street on the left side if you enter it from Victoria Square. Definitely try some! Also, don’t forget to go on the wheel! I recommend going at night because seeing the lights of the beautiful city is amazing.

I hope this helped you if you’re feeling a bit anxious or just a bit hesitant about going and enjoying the market. Trust me, it can be stressful for anyone but it’s completely worth it!
